Subject: CPC Texas Prairie Dawn Surveys - March 19, 20, and 21Howdy, fellow Texas Prairie Dawners (or the TPD Posse, if you prefer),
It’s that time of year again where we begin to dream about thousands of tiny little yellow Q-tips emerging from the unique saline barrens of the Katy Prairie, the flowers of the Texas Prairie Dawn (Hymenoxys texana). 😉
We will be counting these redwoods of the micro-plant world with Coastal Prairie Conservancy in one of their largest remaining populations at Warren Ranch and Jack Road South Tract on the following dates:
- Thursday, March 19
- Friday, March 20
- Saturday, March 21
For prairie enthusiasts, this is a great way to get to spend time literally on your hands and knees on the prairie, enjoying an often under-appreciated view from the perspective of our local saline barren micro-plant community. You’ll see the Texas Prairie Dawn and it’s associated plant species, as well as a whole host of entomological wonders including tiny native pollinators.
For those employed by environmental consulting firms, this is a great opportunity to get free training on how to identify TPD, its associated species and its habitat.
This year’s effort will be led by TPD’s number one fans, the famous indefatigable Jan Culbertson and the fantastic ultra-organized Bethany Foshee.....
Please feel free to forward to anyone else who may be interested.
Many thanks,
Matt Stahman
