He mentioned that cingular now offers a new 3G network for data
traffic. Consumers can access it in the Houston area (and other
metropolitan areas) via a wireless network card.
The flat fee for the service is $60.
In areas that don't have this 3G coverage, consumers can still surf
with the wireless card by using their lower bandwith Edge network. So
for example, Houston, Dallas and Austin have 3G coverage, while San
Antonio (and probably smaller towns) do not.
I already signed up for a DSL package, so I can't try it this year, but
consider that DSL service entails $20 for a landline + $25 (on average)
per month for service. I can't remember the prices for T/W, but I think
basic cable + Roadrunner is in the $50 range as well.
We're talking about a small price difference here. Pay 10-15$ more, and
you get not only high speed at home but also anywhere access.
Does anyone know anything more about this 3G coverage? What about ways
to connect the Cingular wireless card to a WIFI router which lets
multiple devices in your home to use it?

* Bursts up to 1.8 Mbps on 3G UMTS / HSDPA networks
* Average downlink speeds of 70 to 135 kbps on EDGE networks

2 yr contract-New service price
requires that you sign up for Cingular 39.99 cellphone service (darn,
there goes the idea of relying on Skype for phone calls!)
Also, you pay $99 for the Sierra Wireless Aircard 860 PC Modem.
So that's $99 one time charge for the modem, +40 basic cellphone
service + $59 monthly unlimited 3G service.
The future is looking bright...!
