I've seen some ads claiming you can rent your house out for the week of the
superbowl for outrageous sums, like $5,000-10,000/week for a house that
might normally rent for about $2,000/mo. I'm pretty skeptical of these so
wanted to see if anyone has actually done or is doing this and, if so, what
kind of deal you made, etc.

Lady friend is renting her 2BR condo on Augusta for $1500 for three nights. Im
sure regular (and larger) homes close to the stadium would get more.

A recent article in the Chronicle indicated that the overwhelming majority
of homeowners advertising are not getting the "pay off the mortgage" 1-2
week rentals they had dreamed of. They cite a healthy number of hotel rooms
as part of the reason. However, they also called on a number of advertisers
from California last year and found that out of 10 or 20 (I cannot precisely
remember) only one or two had customers and those were for fairly reasonable
rates, not the big dollars some were promising.

If you've only got $6500 for two weeks in the house, you're missing
$2-$5K for tickets (per each) to the game. Not to mention food, booze
and sex (if you don't bring your own). Welcome Fat Cats! Have fun in
H-Town! Spend your money foolishly and be aware of the time it takes to
get through all of the "security checkpoints" you'll have to deal with.

On Channel 2 last week, they did a segment on this. Some guy is
renting his 5,000 sq. ft house for $70,000(3 days) to some corporate
execs from out of town. The execs are flying in on a private chartered
jet!!

Uh ... a private jet is not that big a deal, if you're paying that
much money just for the house.

Depending on the size it costs a couple thousand dollars an hour for a
bizjet. Say they come here from New York, and assume that it is an
8-hour round trip. That's about $16,000 for the air travel.

And these are guys who probably make hundreds of thousands of $$ a
year.
