Best reason yet to be glad KK left Houston. Besides, as far as ultimate
junk food go, I've already survived something more extreme than that, at the
Rodeo. The fried Twinkie (I still think that was funnel cake batter).

I'd have to go with the Big Mel from Mel's diner in Tomball as being the
most unhealthy.

What are its credentials? Last time we had this discussion, I think
the All-Day Burger from the Lankford Grocery had the greatest acclaim
from h.e. The fried egg on top was the deciding factor.

Speaking of which, the Zagat's Survey -Texas Restaurant, c2006, gives
Lankford grocery a 25 for food. This is right up there with Kiran's,
Capitol Grille, Ruth's Chris and about 10 other joints. This seems
wildly improbable to me, but it means I *really* have to get to
Lankford's and check it out.

Maybe I'm incorrect, but I recall that it was Sam's Deli Diner which had the
All-Day Burger with the fried egg on top (Joey Berner was the first to tell
me of that atrocity!). Sadly, I heard that they had closed. Even more sad
was that I never got there!

Lankford is still there, but I haven't gotten there yet either, doggone it!
I've heard raves about their cheese enchiladas.

I took this from the site below......and it wasn't a Big Mel..it was the
Mega Mel....my bad.

http://texasburgerguy.blogspot.com/2004/12/review-1-mels-country-cafe-tomball.html

" Mel's flagship burger is it's Mega Mel's Burger. This thing is approaching
bovine armageddon status! This thing has 6 - count em' - SIX patties
totaling 1 1/2 pounds of beef - a friggin' pound of bacon - ź pound of
cheese - all the vegetables - and a half off coupon for a defibulator. If
you can eat this bad boy in under 2 hours and not "return any of the food
for a refund" during that time - you get your name written on the Mel's Wall
of Fame and you will be forever the envy of binge eaters everywhere! One guy
at this monstocity in 9 minutes!!! I bet that dude had a real bad case of
something that night. Yowser!"

I can tell you this about Mel's as the name implies it is good country food.
The food falls into two food groups Meat and Fried.....they even have fried
meat!!! Mel's is in the middle of nowhere...I literally drove past it 3
times a week for 3 years wondering "man what is the deal" since there were
sooooo many cars parked outside it EVERYDAY before I decided to give it a
shot.

I knew that Houston was into aggressive annexation but isn't this
getting a bit carried away.

The everyday is a bit much. The only two times that I tried to go there
it was closed.

Worse than unhealthiest, it sounds completely revolting to me. I might
frow up.

I'd be curious about what you think. I thought Lankford was good, but
far from great.

Up in a little coastal town in Oregon (Manzanita) there's the (unfortunately
named) Tsunami Burger. $10.95. Half pound of beef, big cut of ham, bacon,
mushrooms, Tillamook cheese, a fried egg on top of it all. Served with slaw
or fries.

Amazing.
