We haven't been to Enzo's for about a year and discovered that they had
closed. Seems like they had a number of transitions, new management, menu
changes, etc. Anybody know what did them in?
Chris in Pearland
I think you answered your own question, if you changed occasionally to
regularly...:-)
There are lots of places that are still open and much better quality or a
similar quality for less money.
Clear Lake is a difficult place to keep a restaurant open as it seems to lack
the Christmas business and you cannot keep good wait staff year to year.
JJ
JJ,
FWIW, the reason we only went to Enzo's occasionally was because when we
first started going there they catered only to the regulars. At that time
it was a very crowded and popular restaurant. We received good food, but
lousy service, and things like being seated near the kitchen. We may have
become regulars had they treated us better. In later years during our trips
there the food had gone downhill (maybe they "healthied" up the menu or
lowered the quality). At any rate it's gone now.

Hey, Chris!
We ate there once, early in our marriage, so it would have been the early
90s. Same exact situation--- they seemed to dote on their regulars, and we
got shoved into a teeny table near the kitchen and basically ignored ---- no
wait, I do remember being insulted by the 17 year old "sommelier." OMG
what a pretentious ass.
The food was OK, but it didn't make up for the bad service, and we never
returned. Then we saw a remodel, and a grand reopening several years ago,
but it was totally off our radar by then.
There was a similar situation with an Italian restaurant that occupied the
space where Tommy's is (can't recall the name.) We even had to complain to
the manager about the bad service, and he seemed totally unconcerned.
As to other Italian in CL--- we had a pretty good meal at Franca's several
years back, but then again, it was several years back. ;-) And I do like
Perry's Italian.
Also, I had a great meal at a tiny little Italian place in Pearland, run by
a woman who was Eastern European--- but I can't remember the name. I know
she has another restaurant in Friendswood as well. Anyone? We tried Babbo
Bruno because we heard everyone raving, but I really didn't think it was
anything special.
Jennie,
We seem to be in perfect sinc. We also tried Babbo Bruno and it was just
OK. Is the restaurant you're trying to think of Santa Barbara Italian Cafe?
We've never tried it, but apparently need to! They now have two
locations... 607 S Friendswood Dr Friendswood TX 77546 281.648.2023

Never went to the place.
Perry's Italian is a good place, kind of pricey for what you get.
Having worked in the Clearlake area for 40+ years (even if I don't
live there) my assessment is that Frenchie's Italian Restaurant on
what used to be Nasa Rd 1 (they want to call it Parkway, parking-
practice-way would be a better word).....
is one of the best Italian Restaurants in Houston.
I think Frank and Giuseppe Camera are from Naples and do a good job
for an 'American Italian' eatery.
Having been to Italy 7 times and eaten both north and south I have to
say that Frenchie's has a number of those olive-oil-sauces for pasta
that I rarely find here but are ubiquitous in Italy. Even the
marinara's there are not all the gloppy sweet reds and too-rich
Alfredo's I find at the Olive Garden their like.
I can't say they nail real Italian cuisine that i have known in Italy
but I think that is an adaptation on their part for American tastes.
It is my favorite place to eat in Clear Lake.
Frenchie's Shrimp Ortolano... mmmmmmm......

Thanks.
As for the Usenet, you do not enter it in your browser you enter it in your
news reader or the equivalent in your email program set up.
I do not use Entourage, so I have no idea how to set up the groups in the
email client. I find things much better with mozilla Firefox and x-news as a
back-up where I just have to add it to my account settings.
Email with contact number if you want some help and I can talk you through the
process.
JJ
My two favorites in the area are Mediterraneo for a quick bit of middle
European junk food and Signature Bistro which has yet to re-open after the Ike
damage.

That's it! We went to both of them on the same night. Duh. We arrived
first at the Pearland one, and after waiting forever for our friends,
ordered calimari (fantastic--- not those frozen rubbery rings, but the real
deal--- delicious), and then when we realized there was ANOTHER Santa
Barbara restaurant, we realized that THAT was the one our friends must have
gone to. So, we drove over there and sure enough, they were waiting for us
(and had also ordered the calimari!). We ate the rest of dinner at that
one. Can't remember what I had, but it was very good. It was a few years
ago, but I'd give it another shot. I had actually forgotten about it, and
we really had a good meal. The one in Pearland was tiny tiny, and very
charming.
Mediterraneo Market and Cafe used to be on our Wed rotation for one of
my lunch club groups, but the guys did not like it when they reduced
the portions (not big anyway) and raised prices, I still go by there.
Cuisine of India is on our list, great buffet, we would go to Mogul
Indian Restaurant but for some damn reason they still allow smoking,
maybe its just at the bar, but we cannot abide that.
And of course Frenchie's, but then I have raved about that place.
I am addicted to Pho so just Pho 21 over there on Bay Area.
Oriental Gourmet on El Camino is hard to believe for the size and
quality of it's buffett, I always get a Wok toss and pretend I am
getting Mongolian BBQ!
Masa Sushi is ok with us now days, we like the place, don't care for
the Hibachi style Japanese stuff for lunch never go to those places.
Ate at Sartin's Seafood of Nassau Bay and then took a month's worth of
Lipitor to clear my arteries.
How Franca's (un-) Real Italian Restaurant stays in biz on Nasa RD 1
(been there forever) is beyond me, got to be the ugliest eatery in
Clear Lake.
I mean with Frenchie's , the Colosseum Italian Restaurant and the
Italian Cafe (not a bad little place).... to chose from... I never go
to Franca's!
I have heard they have good food but never stopped in there and they do
need to at least paint the building every hundred years or so.
