I need an explanation: We went down to the Bolivar Peninsula this last
weekend. First stop was our favorite, Stingaree. They didn't have All You
Can Eat Crab because, we were told, bad crab season, they're too small. OK.
We survived with some other good stuff. The next day we went into Galveston
and stopped at Benno's. What do you know???!! Crabs!!! So we had some.
Yum. Then back to Bolivar. Dinner at Steve's Landing. They had ... crabs...
So what's the deal? My guess is that the price of crabs is up and All You
Can Eat just doesn't cut it at Stingaree right now so they don't serve it.
Still, if that's the case, just say so... and sell me some crabs at market
prices. They do exist, don't they? I had them.....

I got crabs once, but I had to pay market place to get RID of them. :)
Sorry, I just couldn't resist!

My experience at Stingaree's would lead me to believe that NO crab is too
small to sell in their AYCE special. I just go there because it's the only
AYCE crabs in the area.

Crabs are in season in the summer. I wouldn't order boiled ones until at
least May, later is better. Could be they served you some frozen ones or
they know a really, really good crab man. I mean, Joe's Crab Shack has
crabs year 'round, but are they locally harvested?, fresh?, big and
full? I doubt it.

Good info. I'm actually a visitor to Houston. I come down twice a year
from Seattle. Up here the crab season is December through June-ish.. These
are Dungeness, which are bigger and quite a different taste. So... when I
come back in late October will I be a happy crabber? Benno's in Galveston
had some fairly tasty ones but later that day, Steve's Landing had some that
I would have thrown back...

Late October might be a little late. If we have a long, hot summer with
very little hurricane disturbance, it might be passable.
