I know absolutely nothing about this place, except that I can walk to
it from home, but Sally sent me this e-mailed menu. There are a lot
of restaurants in churches in Houston. Maybe we ought to take a look
at where they are and see about trying some. At this church, the
Bread Pudding with Whisky Cream Sauce intrigues me.

How completely bizarre!! That was the church we attended when my family
first moved to Houston in 1977. The buildings hadn't even been started on
yet, services being held for a little while in a tiny shack of a church in
the middle of what looked like a small forest (there was absolutely
*nothing* in that little area at the time, just lots of trees). While the
church buildings were being built, services were moved to the "Church of the
Holy Cafeteria" in the elementary school down a ways on Memorial Drive. I
am definitely going to have to check out Momma-n-Nem's; the menu looks
yummy, and it will be fun to take a step into a bit of my past. Thanks for
the info, Jack.

I would be very interested in someone's report on this place. It's about a
mile from my home and I probably pass it twice a day.

Incidently, (slightly OT), there is an office building across the street -
formerly occupied by Global Marine. To the right of the entrance to the
parking garage, and just outside of the entrance to the bank, Glomar set up
an exhibit of a piece of an artifact from an episode they participated in
during the cold war - - the Jennifer Project. They sort of skirt the issue
in the plaque describing what it is and what it was used for, but for anyone
who has ever had anything to do with a conventional drill string, it is an
awesome piece of equipment.

You're right, it *is* off-topic, but I would like to know what a drill
string could have to do with the "cold war".

I believe Christ Church Cathedral has Treebeard's lunch every weekday,
served in their courtyard.

I ate there today for lunch. Choice of baked chicken or smothered pork
chops. I had the chops. Fairly good, tender & served over rice. Sides
were green bean casserole & mirliton. The mirliton is a squash casserole
with ham & shrimp. It's good as well. Pricey at $7.50, but it goes to the
church I'm sure. Overall it's ok, not great, they need more spices &
stronger flavor.

For similar food, I'd prefer to go to Creole's on Walnut Bend. That guy
knows how to cook!
Kerr.

I'm not too sure that much goes to the church... I believe she just rents
space from the church.

Yes it was. On a side note, yet further off topic, the Explorer has been
refit in the past few years and is currently working offshore as a drill
ship.

There is also a book on the Jennifer Project.
