I found this group by Googling "r user groups" to get to:

http://blog.revolutionanalytics.com/local-r-groups.html

Notice in the above link that it says "Coming Soon" for the Houston
Group. My guess is, if you post this site on common "R" sites,
you'll get more members.

I'm an engineer. I've been playing with R for control systems
problems, financial problems, macro-economic problems, etc, but I'm
always looking for anything new. Is there some type of plan for
this group?

I know Hadley (Wickham) had mentioned that we have obtained some form
of sponsorship from Revolution Analytics for meetings, but that was
awhile ago. Personally, I'd like to get something started sooner
rather than later, even if it's just informal and consists of a few
people meeting in a bar to share some beers and talk about what
they're doing with R. I realize Hadley's got a lot on his plate right
now, so I'd be okay with kicking off a more formal group at a later
time when he's ready.

If anyone's interested, let me know and we can settle on a location
and time once we figure out how many people we're talking about.

Ed,

I would be interested in a bs session. A central location and good
timing for everyone, however, may be a problem. I live on the west
side of town, around Dairy Ashford and Westheimer. My schedule
beyond a week in advance is very unpredictable.

What kind of R applications are you working on? Any examples on a
website/blog?

Hi, I would also be interested. I am finishing my PhD at Rice on
statistics (bioinformatics) and I am developing a C library for R for
stochastic/deterministic simulations.

Cheers

Should we move locations around from one time to the next so everyone will have a chance to attend?

Thanks,
erin

I would also be interested in meeting up. I work for the Houston
Rockets as a statistical analyst. R is one of the tools I use to
analyze player and team performance in basketball. I would love to
learn more about what others are doing.

I'd definitely be keen!

I work in Bellaire and live on the west side, so I'm pretty flexible. I use R at home for various things, and at work for items related to Geophysics.

Great! It seems like we are spread out all over (I'm in the
Woodlands) so maybe downtown, the Galleria or near one of the campuses
would be the best location for the first meeting. It looks like we
would have between 5-10 people showing up.

I'm going to start another thread to discuss meeting times and
locations.

I'd be very interested in a meeting too. I'm a graduate student in
Computer Science working on an optimizing compiler for R.
