All,

We had our first HPS Executive meeting last night to plan for the year, and there are a few things to share with you.

 

  1. Activities are back. We are planning to do outings for members on the second weekend of the month. We are asking members to lead these, versus just having an activities chair do them all. A few we have on the list are :
    Feb 24-25th - Chinese Lunar New Year – in development – can someone lead this?
    March – Bluebonnets – can someone lead this?
    April – Art Car Parade – can someone lead this?
    May – High Island – Myriam to lead
    October  - Brazos Bend  - Kate to lead
    Other Ideas? : Rice University grounds, Zoo Lights, Downtown walk, Washington on the Brazos, Galveston
    Let us know if you would like to lead and organize an outing.
  2. We are purchasing a new projector for the group. The old one is showing its age, and it is time to retire it.
  3. The HPS Exec committee voted to drop the Special Category and Photographer of the Year award for the print competitions due to lack of participation over the past 2 years. This change will be voted on by the membership at our next meeting on January 23.  
  4. Financially we are sound.
  5. At the end of 2017, we have 52 members. This is lower that our target, and we are looking at ways to increase membership. More on that to come later.
  6. New Facebook Critique Group for active members. A few people have voiced interest in getting more critiques. This will be a closed group, so only the group members will see the posts. Once you are paid for 2018, you can ask to join the group. This is an evolving thing for the group, so feedback is welcome on how best to get everyone engaged. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1960782990840647/
  7. The website is being revamped. Matthew O’Connor has already built the new one, he is working on getting the hosting and domain switched over.
  8. Posting winning images to the website is back. The process will be sent out after the new website is stable.
