Hi everyone --
Next week, we will meet on Weds, August 21st at 7pm in the Community Room at Central Market to discuss the second half of THE WORDY SHIPMATES by Sarah Vowell. Wendy will be leading the discussion. This is not a difficult read so in case you haven't started the second half yet (pages 129 to 248), you still have time. (And points and issues from first part of book are welcome in the discussion too.)
Though a very unpretentious little book, I'm finding it quite interesting learning about how the Puritans influenced the ideas that were so important in the founding of our country. AND having both the upside as well as downside presented by the author such as in biblical stories, in self-reliance, democracy, elitism (or lack of), and more.
And also, want to remind you of the next book THINKING FAST AND SLOW that we will begin discussing on Wednesday, September 20th.
Hope you can join us on this coming Wednesday for the wrap up of this original commentary on the Puritans. THE WORDY SHIPMATES!
