Hi everyone -
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, October 17th at 7pm at Houston
Central Market in the Community Room upstairs.
We will discuss the first six chapters of THE SHALLOWS by Nicholas
Carr. Next month on Nov 21st we will NOT meet because that is the day
before Thanksgiving. We will finish THE SHALLOWS by discussing the
final chapters (and anything still pertinent from first part of the
book) at our meeting on December 19th.
I've decided to change our schedule. As a result we will not discuss
THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE or LORDS OF FINANCE unless someone adds them to
the ballot for this upcoming meeting. And because of the holiday, we
will not be meeting in November.
Because of some feedback I've received, I've decided to have an
unscheduled election of three new titles at our next meeting on Oct
17th. Because there is a desire for other titles along with the fact
that I'm a bit tired of leading most of the discussions since that
isn't really what I envisioned for the long term, thought it would be
good to have an election to replace THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE by Brian
Greene and LORDS OF FINANCE by Liaquat Ahamed. FYI: Though exceptions
will probably happen, I have not changed the policy established of
attempting to limit monthly reading to less than 200 pages (or so).
Anyone who has attended twice may submit up to two titles for the
ballot. Please send me an email - only need to include title and
author. Ballot as of the time of my writing this message is at:

If anyone has bought THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE or LORDS OF FINANCE in
anticipation of our discussions, I would be very willing to purchase
the books from you. Just bring the books to the discussion and I will
pay their price. Of course, anyone who has attended twice is welcome
to submitting these titles to the ballot.
In case it isn't obvious, I am still trying to get my "bearings"
organizing this group which is a bit different than others I have been
affiliated with. Your feedback is always welcome and can be helpful to
me especially for those (hopefully few) times I make "executive"
decisions such as now. I apologize for any confusion.
Looking forward to our discussion on Oct 17th.
