Take Your Space Science Teaching to the Next Level!

Do you know of teachers (formal or informal) who would benefit from a deeper understanding of the solar system? In addition to phases of the Moon and seasons on standardized tests, there’s much more to learn about our solar system.

In this class at Rice University, educators will learn how to solve Kepler’s laws, elliptical orbits, and more. This year, the class will also introduce the use of OpenSpace—a fantastic free solar system (and universe) space simulation program.

  • Teaching Earth and Space Science (ASTR502) is a solar system class especially for teachers.
  • Taught without calculus and with a hefty dose of how to prepare these topics, it’s open to preservice and in-service teachers and undergraduates considering a teaching profession.
  • This is an excellent content course for students in the MAT or MSS programs or those who have participated in related PD workshops over the years.
