We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the NSF Microelectronics Using Project-Based Learning (REM: EMProject), a National Science Foundation-supported program at Rice University offering hands-on microelectronics research experiences for high school and community college educators as well as community college and Rice undergraduate students.

Whether you’re looking to bring cutting-edge STEM content into your classroom or expand your technical skills as a student researcher, this six-week paid summer program offers immersive opportunities in Rice’s state-of-the-art NanoFabrication Facility — plus professional development, mentorship, and more.

High School & Community College Educators

Program Dates:

  • Orientation: June 5–6, 2025
  • Research Internship: June 9–July 18, 2025
  • Research Symposium for Teachers: July 22, 2025
  • Fall Workshops: Sept 3, Oct 1, Nov 5, 2025
  • Spring Commitments: Feb & Mar 2026

Benefits:

  • Up to $8,000 stipend
    Hands-on research & cleanroom training
    Curriculum development with potential for publication
    Entering Mentoring training & ongoing support
    Networking & PD opportunities

Expectations:

  • Full summer commitment (40 hrs/week)
  • Lesson plan submission & student outreach participation
  • Research presentation at R-STEM events
Rice Undergraduate and Community College Undergraduates

Program Dates:

  • Orientation: June 5–6, 2025
  • Research Internship: June 9–July 18, 2025

Benefits:

  • $6,000 stipend
  • Hands-on research with mentorship
  • Weekly cohort meetings & PD
  • Free parking at Rice
  • Poster presentation experience
  • Room and board provided for Rice undergraduates who do not reside in Houston.

Expectations:

  • 40 hours/week for six weeks
  • Completion of all assignments and a research poster
