As stated in an earlier thread,  I bought the full Arducopter Hexa C, just clicked every box 3DR had listed and ordered it complete with a Spektrum DX8. The Hex cam in a couple of weeks ago. Lipos, chargers, XT60 connectors, a prop balance gizmo, more extra parts, a soldering iron etc.are gradually arriving.

This past Sunday I got my workshop area setup. Notebook in place, Mission Planner, updates, DirectX installed and started the Arducopter setup steps.

Mission Planner sees the APM and I uploaded the latest firmware.

I started the Radio Calibration last night and (from what I can tell) need to do some setup on the DX8 itself to recognize Channel 5 and in turn the 6 Position setup.

Tonight I will try the below method from the DIY forum....

Spectrum DX8 2 Switches 1 TX channel 6 Flight Modes
http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/spectrum-dx8-2-switches-1-tx-channel-6-flight-modes?id=705844

This is frustrating because at no point is there anything that states the TX needs configuration prior to Radio Calibration. I guess technically if you do not want to set F-Modes you don't need to. But to me pre-programmed modes are a part of the coolness of the setup with loiter, RTL etc.

If anyone has DX8 experience, let me know if I am on the right track or not.

Thanks
John

Figured it out. Mixing is now setup for all 6 Flight Modes and wiring fixed between APM and Spektrum AR8000.

Upgraded to new v3.0 Arducopter and calibrated ESC's with no issues.... Well maybe 1, had to erase eeprom before it would take.

Ordered a FatShark Attitude earlier this week, should be here Friday.

I've been up and running for about a month on my tricopter with an apm 2.6.  With the new power mod, it seems to be running great. Want to fly with others. Don't have my fpv set up finished yet.
