TYPES OF CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES IN MAHARASHTRA

There are appx. 36 different types of co-operative societies in Maharashtra. It is MOST UNFORTUNATE that Co-operative Housing Societies, which are the only and essentially the non-profit making societies, are also covered under the same MCS Act., MCS Rules and probably the Bye Laws.

The time has come to represent the Co-operative Ministry and other authorities that the Housing Societies must be considered as a separate body altogether and separate Acts, Rules and Bye Laws be enacted / framed for them. I have already discussed the matter with many veterans in the field. There are appx. 80,000 co-operative housing societies in the state representing about one third population in the state.
