Subject: WASH Laboratory Scientist Position at CDC

Hi Dan,

I am the supervisor of the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory in CDC’s Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch. We are looking for candidates for a full time civil service position to help us develop training and capacity building curricula to enable Ministries of Health and Environment in GHSA partner countries to conduct environmental and laboratory investigations to prevent waterborne disease transmission.  Would you be willing to distribute the announcement below through the household water treatment Google group?  Do you know of other clearinghouse-type mechanisms that we could consider to help get the announcement out regarding this position?

The Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch (WDPB) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking candidates for a full time, term-limited government employee position to work on projects for a new US Government initiative, referred to as the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA, http://www.globalhealth.gov/global-health-topics/global-health-security/ghsagenda.html).  Candidates should have an MS or PhD degree and practical experience with techniques for determining the microbial quality of water and other environmental samples, including disinfectant residual, fecal indicator, and pathogen detection methods. Experience in applying these techniques for field and lab testing in international, resource limited contexts is desired.  The candidate will be expected to be a self-starter and to accomplish tasks independently in conjunction with team-based project planning. The GHSA environmental scientist will be tasked with developing a strategy and curricula to assist GHSA partner countries in developing capacity to test water and other environmental samples to prevent disease and control outbreaks. Curricula and training modules will incorporate available resources and will need to be flexible to address needs identified by partners.  Curricula and training modules will be disseminated using multiple mechanisms, including classroom based training and web-based technical transfer. WDPB will work with selected partner countries to pilot the environmental testing capacity building materials, and will develop relationships with external partners that can serve as subject matter experts to conduct trainings.  This position is located at CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta, GA but will require some international travel. Interested candidates can contact Dr. Vincent Hill at vh...@cdc.gov to learn more about this position.

Thanks for your help.

Vince
