Greetings ...

Getting a little desperate, seeing that the local people don't have this needed RS232 to RS485/RS422 converter.  RS Electronics have one listed, but no stock. Anybody know where to source this kind of device?

Thanks

Assuming that you need RS485 on the camera side, it might be easier to buy a RS485 card for the PC.

These converters were common about 10 years ago (but not cheap) and they're getting harder to find locally.

Also, about 10 years ago I used to deal with Centurion Micro Electronics for this type of stuff (and embedded industrial PC's) http://www.cme.co.za/

A quick look on their website didn't list anything, but give them a call, they might be able to help.

That seems to be exactly what I am looking, for have already purchased from RS, at three times the prices.  Any way, if we need more, I know where to get cheaper.

Thanks Guys!!

Seems the standard now, is to connect an RS232 to RS422/RS485 to an isolated distribution/splitter/switch box, so no need for the expensive devices I have seen, used in Industrial Application.  Then from switch to Cameras to communicate with Pan/Tilt/Zoom hardware.

Funny thing is, I would think that any company providing PC based capture cards, would carry these devices to, so that you can still install PTZ Cameras on PC and not only on Stand-alone DVR systems.

I have seen this convert going tom R70 to R3500, so yes ... Crazy stuff.  I remember people making these converts for PLC's in the Industrial market, but that was many years ago.

I'll look there ... Always good to have these sites on hand.  Their SEO is bad, so very hard to find these things, unless you know what they do.
