For years we have allowed politicians and special interest groups to
dictate social policy to us (ie, how we should politically correctly
view issues facing our society) instead of thinking for ourselves.
This has causes a serious case of groupthink on most issues of
importance today.

Groupthink is the condition of social interaction where conformity to
the 'group' opinion on an issue is the only one accepted and the only
one allowed to be voiced. All 'discussion' must be focused on
reinforcing the politically correct opinion and any opposing views are
blasphemy.

This is not what made the United States the superpower it has been
over the past 200+ years. The strength of the United States is our
ability to listen to opposing views, incorporate them into our open
discussion on a given issue, and to come to a concensus on what
actions should be taken.

Most of the 'discussions' today consist of special interest groups
seeming to claim their opinion on any given issue and their solutions
to the issue are the end-all and be-all of that topic, allowing no
room for true discussion of the issue or innovations in its solution.
This is counterproductive and has allowed things like poverty, racism,
and corporate greed to continue effectively unchallenged and
unaffected by decades of 'effort' to end them.

Only through candid discussion can the issues facing our society and
our world be understood, evaluated, and ultimately solved through
concensus and rational, effective activism.

What are your opions on the subject?
