$$ ENGINEERING CAREERS: GETTING CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT
Wednesday, May 11, 2016
6:30 PM to 9:30 PM
GA Seattle1218 Third Ave Seattle , WA 98101 , Seattle, WA
https://generalassemb.ly/education/engineering-careers-getting-clear-on-what-you-want/seattle/23217
About This WorkshopWe hear it all the time: “Know what you want.” If it were that easy to figure out there wouldn’t be such a high disengagement rate among skilled workforce. Engineers are great at designing solutions to problems, but not so good at designing a meaningful career. A career management mindset is the key to a fulfilling career and building one starts with increasing awareness and making conscious choices. Awareness is the key when it comes to creating something new: building a vision or launching a business or designing a career all starts with knowing your values and what you want.
Students will get sensory-rich perspectives of different work environments in different industries where engineering work takes place to prepare them for the meditative visualization. While learning about the great benefits of daily meditation, students will engage in guided meditative visualization to let their subconscious mind guide them in understanding what they want to experience during their engineering career. Following the goal setting exercise students will create a baseline vision board that can serve as the basis of further career planning.
OOP, Top Transferrable Skills in Tech - May 2016
Thursday, May 12, 2016
6:30 PM
Code Fellows2901 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/seattle-campus-inside-and-out-object-oriented-prog-may-2016-tickets-24199894536?aff=meetupComputers have become a part of everyone's day to day life. The mechanics of making computers work, however, are rather abstract. Object Oriented Paradigm, or Programming, (aka OOP) is a methodology through which the abstract becomes nearly tangible - machine language is translated into easier to understand objects and methods.
OOP is one of the most powerful, popular, effective and efficient programming technique used by many programming languages to interact with the computer. Siva Dopasati will share the true essence of OOP and how using this technique can enable you to engineer and program effectively. Siva will cover:
- Why/What OOP
- Understanding Classes and Objects
- Different principles of OOP (Encapsulation, Abstraction, Inheritance & Polymorphism)
