Subject: Help Us Find a Soft Landing for Max, Our Sweet Senior.
Cc: LifeSavingPrograms <Lifesavin...@hswcmd.org>
Max is an 11-year-old hound mix who has quietly won the hearts of our staff. His path to us was not an easy one. He was reported as a stray found wandering near a road, unable to stand and struggling to breathe. When our field team arrived, it became clear that Max wasn’t a stray at all. He had a family who loved him but could no longer meet his medical needs, and they made the difficult decision to surrender him in hopes that someone else could give him the care he deserves.Since arriving, Max has faced each day with a gentle, forgiving spirit. Even when his body doesn’t cooperate, he leans into slow pets and seems to soak up kindness the way only an old dog can. Our veterinary team has been keeping him comfortable and monitoring his progress. Radiographs and exams show pneumonia, a 4/6 heart murmur, and dental disease that will need addressing. He’s currently on antibiotics and doing his best, one day at a time.Handling around the front of his body makes him uncomfortable, but with fear-free techniques and patience, he shows trust and appreciation for calm interactions. It’s clear that Max has spent his life wanting to be someone’s dog; To be spoken to softly, cared for, and allowed to rest near the people he loves.Max cannot be adopted directly from the shelter due to his medical condition. He is a cryptorchid male and will need several weeks before he can safely undergo surgery. What Max needs most right now is a quiet, nurturing place where he can rest and recover. A home, rescue, or sanctuary that understands senior dogs and the quiet magic they bring. We can provide full medical history and assist with transport. It would be wonderful to see Max spend his golden years surrounded by love and care.--
