Crispin came to BARCS as a stray on 8/16, and this boy has several medical needs to be addressed. He is likely cryptorchid, meaning one or possibly both of his testicles may be retained, and he has an open diagnosis for left hind-end or potentially bilateral hind-limb lameness that will need further evaluation.
Crispin also has severe, chronic ear infection. It is suspected to be yeast-related and has resulted in significant narrowing of the ear canals, an aural hematoma, and dermatitis from irritation and scratching. He also has a low-grade heart murmur that was graded 1/6 and is most audible on the left/sternal area. These concerns will require continued veterinary care and follow-up beyond what a shelter environment can provide.
Crispin is fearful and nervous in the shelter, particularly when being leashed. Around other dogs, he has been very stiff and awkward and showed little interest in interacting, although he appeared somewhat looser and more comfortable around female dogs. He will need a patient rescue or foster who can give him time to decompress, build trust, and help determine what he is like in a home environment.
Crispin is still learning that he is safe. He needs someone willing to look past the uncertainty and fear we are seeing in the shelter and give him the time, medical care, and patience he deserves.
A full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Thank you,
