Hi there,

At this time if we want to work together as a community we'll need a
common ground server apart from the backup infrastructure, file hosting,
etc. In that common ground server we could use several services to
coordinate easily all the efforts made with:

a) An easy going code repository for the developers (Subversion,
Mercurial, etc.). So they can download the most cutting edge code from
everybody and upload their contributions on the common code itself.

b) An organizational easy going application to track tasks, issues,
suggestions and so on, like Request Tracker.

c) A wiki (that Walter already built) so people can share information
about the community, how it's being built, how to use the code
repository and those tools, etc...

d) A MySQL service where people can build up their Schemas and make
their tests. All the SQL content could be included in the code
repository mentioned before.

e) Perhaps a MailMan service to establish several extra mail worklists
depending on the area to cover (devel...@hotu.org,
contri...@hotu.org, arc...@hotu.org, docume...@hotu.org, etc).
The Google groups mail list could stand for organizational and general
purposes.

All those services should be easy to backup and to replicate with some
dirty scripting, so to base it in well established open source tools
will help us very much.

What do you think? Where we can host all those tools, so people can
start to get user accounts to work with it? When we start working on it,
together?

Cheers,
Nacho

My site is pretty dead right now, and has uber bw and space. Maybe I
can be of service if a lil passively. Tho my site, soon to be sites,
will be picking up in a couple months when I finish some classes, It
should still handle what you put on it. The CVS and the rest of the
stuff can be put on there with a lil work from me and prodding of the
server ops. I have pretty decent MySQL space and PostgreSQL as well.
It would be better to use the latter for this as I probably won't
right now. 180MB space for the PG Squirrel if you wanted to know. Hope
this all comes to reality, I still play a few of the gems I got from
HOTU a couple years ago!

Hi! Thanks for your warm reply!
Perhaps it could be better to look for a permanent place to stay in, so
we could avoid to move on from time to time if possible.

Fine! What really makes me worry is the cold receiving that is having
the proposal I made.
It's very logical to have a main server to work together, is'nt it?
What has happened with all the synergy of the last week?

Regards to everybody,
Nacho

That is what we need but I'm starting to think it's pointless, 'rebuild'
sites are a dime a dozen now and there little chance of shutting them
down to work on a central project.

Nacho, I agree that we need a common server and a common ground. Maybe the lack of activity in the group is the proof that multiple builds, multiple efforts, forks... don't contribute to the end goal of HOTUD.

The reason I've been quiet is that I'm sick at the moment and
about to relocate internationally, so cannot afford much time
to look at HOTU right now.

If someone has a dedicated server or VM I will be happy to
transfer the existing code and database from my rebuild
(though there are still a few remaining data import related
issues), set up MySQL, lighttpd, memcached, PHP etc.
so that others can move forward while I'm unavailable.

Otherwise, please bear with me for a week or two.

It's true that anybody can build now a Hotu clone...but what about the
Gutenberg of games? I think Sarinee is right, we can build something
from the ashes of Hotu that could be even bigger. Let's go steady
towards this idea: it's the best we have :)

Let's see if we can achieve to have a nice server to work with.

Yes, it's true. It happened so fast...Lord_Pall was the first but not
the last one building his own vision of Hotu.
If we take Sarinee's perspective we can build something similar but
different and bigger: built to last.

Hi Walter,

I hope you get better soon and that you have a nice trip wherever you go :)

Yes, We shall look for a common ground: it will be like an accessible
spanner for everybody.

Don't worry, let's hope that in two weeks we find a stable server to
stay in.

My server space can handle your project for a WHILE Don't you worry.
If need be I'll get separate accounts for the different sites, and
will have more than enough denero to take care of it.

I will be busy over the next couple months setting my financial life
up, econ is killing me. I'll set up a subdomain for ya and maybe
install a CMS for you guys to manage everything. I am not that keen on
that end as of now because of lack of practice. Working on it.

Lemme know what you need and I'll make it happen. I wanted to be
involved with games anyway, so it works! :D
