The
Linux Level 3 Engineer serves as a senior technical expert responsible for the
design, administration, optimization, and support of enterprise Linux
environments. This role handles complex incidents, drives root cause analysis,
implements automation, and provides architectural guidance while ensuring high
availability, security, and performance of Linux-based platforms.
Key
Responsibilities:
- Engineering &
Administration
- Design, deploy, and
maintain Linux environments (RHEL, etc.) across on-premises and cloud
platformsPerform advanced system administration including patching,
upgrades, kernel tuning, and performance optimizationLead platform
standardization and hardening efforts
- Advanced
Troubleshooting (L3 Support)
- Act as escalation point
for L1/L2 teams for complex incidents and outages
- Conduct deep-dive
troubleshooting on OS, networking, storage, and performance issues
- Drive root cause
analysis (RCA) and implement long-term fixes
- Automation & DevOps
Integration
- Develop and maintain
automation using Ansible, Shell, Python, or similar tools
- Implement
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning and configuration management
- Support CI/CD pipelines
and platform integration with DevOps tools
- Collaboration &
Leadership
- Mentor L1/L2 engineers
and provide technical guidance
- Collaborate with
application, cloud, and infrastructure teams
- Provide input into
architecture, design, and modernization initiatives
Experience:
- 8–12+ years of
experience in Linux system administration and engineering
- Experience working in
enterprise or managed services environments
- Prior experience in L3
support or SME role preferred
Certifications:
- Red Hat Certified
Engineer (RHCE) or RHCSA
