Dear Sir /Madam,
Myself Gauri Ranadive, PhD student, CPDM, IISc, Bangalore. I stay in Mrigasira - 112 since January 2008.
I had been allotted this LM 112 room when I got admitted in IISc on 1st Jan 2008 and I have not changed my room in last 3 years and 8 months.
Our hostel is very clean and also each one of us cleans rooms on regular basis. I have never heard of any complaint of bedbugs in last 3.5 years of my stay, from anyone. I am hostel representative of my block (mrigasira) since last 3 years. As I have already mentioned, that even my room is always clean and free of all kind of bugs ( except some seasonal insects in campus).
A month back, I had purchased a new mattress from vendor who had put up a stall in campus for freshers ( may be 29 th of July 11). I already have 2 old mattresses and 2 pillows in my room from the beginning and they are not infected in any sense.
The moment I have purchased new mattress and have got it in the room , my room is full of bedbugs. I had seen them few days back but I had never seen bedbugs before so I was not able to identify these insects. In between I was out of town for a week and when I was back on this Wednesday , bedbugs are all over the places, my bedsheets, beds, pillows, blankets, all new suitcases and cloths around bed. It's been 3 days , I am not able to sleep in my room and all the time, I am either cleaning my room or washing cloths and
trying to get rid of bedbugs.
I just hope that cloths are not infected though I have not got any time to look at them till now.
I called that vendor yesterday and he totally denied the possibility of the bedbugs transfer from his bed to my room saying that he had sold above 800 mattresses and I was the only one complaning. I told him and also asked him to come and inspect all 3 mattresses and pillows I had in which old ones are not infected in slight also and new bed and pillow is full of bedbugs and it's eggs.
May be few other students might have been facing the same problem but they have not complained yet because just like me, they are not able to identify these bedbugs and have been thinking of some regular insects in IISc.
Now the big trouble is I am not able to stay in my room, my all belongings are covered in bedbugs including cloths and bags of daily use. I can't change my room due to lack of accommodation in campus. Even If I clean my room all the day, which I am doing since last 3 days, I am not sure that I will be able to get rid of these things completely.
Will it be wrong if I ask for the compensation for all this trouble to that vendor?
I am really in need of any help I can get.
Awaiting for you response,
Thanking you,
Kind Regards,
Gauri
