برندگان جایزه نوبل اقتصاد در سال 2012

آکادمی سلطنتی علوم سوئد اعلام کرد جایزه نوبل اقتصاد سال ۲۰۱۲ را به  دو اقتصاد دان آمریکائی«لوید شَپلی»  ۸۹ ساله و «آلوین روث»  ۶۰ ساله اهدا کرده است. مبلغ این جایزه هشت میلیون کرون سوئد، برابر با  یک میلیون و دویست هزار دلار است. جایزه نوبل را آلفرد نوبل، مخترع سوئدی دینامیت بنیاد گذاشت. این جایزه از سال ۱۸۹۵ اهدا می شود. رشته اقتصاد، از سال ۱۹۶۸ بر دیگر رشته های جایزه نوبل افزوده شد.

Roth, Shapley win Nobel economics prize

Harvard's Alvin E. Roth and Lloyd S. Shapley of the University of California at Los Angeles were awarded 2012 Nobel economics prize for their separate work on market design, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced Monday. Specifically, the academy said the economists were awarded the prize "for the theory of stable allocations and the practice of market design." The academy said the award recognizes work that goes to the heart of a central economic problem: how to match agents as well as possible. "For example, students have to be matched with schools, and donors of human organs with patients in need of a transplant. How can such matching be accomplished as efficiently as possible? What methods are beneficial to what groups?," the academy explained in its prize announcement. "The prize rewards two scholars who have answered these questions on a journey from abstract theory on stable allocations to practical design of market institutions," the academy said.
