Dear fellow HC/CS Moscow members & guests,
After a cool (some say cold) outdoor HC/CS Tues Meeting last week, we turn
again to the pub format (even though a large part of last week's "park"
meeting actually was held indoors at Pivnoff) and, in a striking
reverse, will head indoors to be outdoors.;)
Our meeting tomorrow will be at that wonderful literary-inspired cafe,
Kvartira 44 (Flat 44) near Polyanka. (Soviet-era surrealist and absurdist poet
Daniil Kharms once twittered memorably: "In flat forty-four lived/Forty-four lively thistle finches" - hence the name.)
(There's also a quote from Ivan Goncharov's Oblomov, a description of a
typical type of flat found in nineteenth century Petrograd. Couldn't
find a translation for it, though.)
The fun part is that, intending to head indoors this time to guard
against the cold of the past week (hence, the "park" meeting's turn to
Pivnoff), we'll most likely be staying outdoors instead. In the spirit
of this wacky summer, I've reserved 10 places in the backyard veranda.
We'll just start colonizing seats as we come in. If not, then we'll
head for the second floor and colonize that instead.

It's relatively simple to get there from Polyanka Metro station. Just turn
left along ulitsa Bolshaya Polyanka (where this colorful church is), past the coffee shop there, then
left again at the next street (Brodnikov Pereulok) and then
right at the first street (Malaya Yakimanka).
Once on the street, you'll find a big sign in blue: "Кв. 44". Go
through the archway, enter the left-side entrance and then exit on the
next door to the left out to the courtyard. It's not Helsinki's
Esplanade but you can see the sky.
If you can read Russian, here's the
menu. Sibirskaya Corona is 90r (0.3l) and 110r (0.5l): won't burn a hole in any of our кошелёк.
In addition to our serious reminder above, you've the usual points to bear in mind:
- Let's leave a 10% tip to the waiters.
- Bring non-CS friends with you so we can introduce them to the CS culture and spirit.
- Anyone who wishes to announce any activity for later in the week can
do so there. Most likely we'll discuss what to do with the next World
Cinema Club. Then again, maybe not.
Best,
Deric
