Meeting repeat lactate timing measure

Can anyone share how they are meeting the timing measure for the repeat lactate level? 

ER draws our initial level but the hospitalists don't know the exact time of severe sepsis onset.  Our ER record is electronic but it does not communicate the ER documentation with the inpatient physician charting system. There are no popup alert capabilities either.

Does anyone draw a second level before the patient leaves the ER?
