Dear Equestrian Colleagues and AERC Trail Masters:

Attached is a report on "Working with Packers and Packstock" that is applicable to AERC Trail Masters and leaders of volunteer trail crews.

Originally, this was for volunteer crew leaders for the Pacific Crest Trail Association (of which I am a long-time member).  But, instead of the West Coast, the information in this report is broadly applicable to any volunteer trail crew in North America that is going to be packed-in for a full week and many miles from the trailhead.

This report focuses on the excellent  Phillips Formitter Decker Pack Saddle, which is the very best and newest design that is widely used by professional packers and Backcountry Horsemen of America.

For complete information on this Decker Pack Saddle, please visit this website:
for Outfitters Pack Station in Weiser, Idaho.  These custom Decker Pack Saddles are manufactured by Wade Mauhl and his wife, Simone Mauhl, an AERC member and endurance rider.     1-800-657-2644

Respectfully submitted, Robert H. Sydnor, AERC Trail Master
