Thanks to Sameer Shamshuddin and the OsiriX User group, some instructions have been created to migrate your OsiriX database to your Horos database. Here are the steps involved:

  • Download the latest version of Horos from our Download page
  • Your default database will be under ~/Documents as ‘Horos Data’ (similar to the ‘OsiriX Data’ folder)
  • Migration requires opening the “OsiriX Data folder,” copying the ALL contents of the ‘OsiriX Data’ folder, and pasting into the Horos Data’ folder (choosing to replace all items when copying)
Afterwards, Horos will recognize your OsiriX databases on External HD and your cases/albums. Please report any bugs or issues to www.horosproject.org/matisBT or here in the Google Group.

easier way will be to just backup your osirix data then rename 'OsiriX Data' folder as 'Horos Data'.

Hi,

Since installing Horos a few days ago, a successful migration of my complete OsiriX database is still eluding me.

Running Osirix Lite 8.0, my database has 615 studies with 398073 images. The vast majority of them do not reside in the ~/Documents/Osirix_Data folder, but elsewhere on my MBP. I usually import and click "copy links" rather than "copy files" to the Osirix Database.

I went thru the automated migration of the database that happens when first starting Horos (1.1.7 on my MBP running MacOS 10.9.5). I've tried the suggestion above and the one below about copying the Osirix_Data folder contents manually. The best I can get in Horos is 181 studies with 8353. Nearly all of these are calculated images I made from raw DICOM data, and are presumably in the Osirix_Data folder. I'm sure I don't need all these in my database, but it would be good to choose myself what to keep in the database.

Any suggestions, or should i start with a blank database and import images from scratch?  I put up with Osirix turning into nagware over the last year, but the Lite version now is so crippled I need Horos to work successfully for me!

Thanks!

For whatever it's worth: although I "copy files" instead of links when importing, I was not able to migrate my OsiriX Lite 8.0.1 database to my Horos database easily.

The studies made it in. However, none of my albums survived. After the studies populated, I had to create new folders and drag each study into its appropriate folder. I tried both the automatic import (i.e., Horos prompt) as well as manual import (copying-pasting of OsiriX library into Horos library). The latter resulted in a bunch of errors the first time I started up Horos after the pasting...not recommended.

Can the powers-that-be streamline the import process for OsiriX users?

I've has a similar problem in that half my cases have transferred across from OsiriX, but some haven't. I can't determine why some have and some haven't; they are all from a variety of sources and in DICOM format. If anyone comes up with a decent solution I'd love to hear it.

Hi,

I have a question about an alternate way to import images from OsiriX into Horos.
I currently started using Horos for a while and have several studies in the /HOROS DATA folder.
Since I'd like to remove OsiriX Lite from my computer (too many annoying popups, it's become unusable) I was wondering if the following merging solution would work.

I want to tell Horos to "import from" and point to the /OSIRIX DATA/ folder. I'll be asked whether to import images or just links.
Importing images would take hours (or days) but what if I simply import links and leave the /OSIRIX DATA/ folder on my computer ?
I can then remove OSIRIX from the computer.

So basically I'm wondering if importing links to the OsiriX Database and then uninstalling OsiriX would do the job ?
Or is there a "cleaner" way to merge both databases and keep only *one* DATA folder ?

Thanks

Felix

Thanks for this tutorial

Would there be a simple way to *merge* both databases ?
I indeed already have lots of cases in Horos and just want to import the OsiriX ones, so I can get rid of OsiriX on my computer.

I believe using "import from" and pointing to /Osirix Data/ folder would do the trick.
Now is it better to select "import files" or "import only links" ?
In the first case I can then totalle unistall OsiriX and delete its Data folder... and in the second case I need to keep the OsiriX DATA folder on my computer.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Felix,

I don't know if you finally solved this, but there is a simple way to do what you want. At least it worked for me. Just change the name of your Osirix Data folder to "Horos Data". Then go to Horos, in File menu select "Open database Folder" and select the folder containing the new "Horos Data" folder (don't select the Horos Data folder itself, but the one containing it). A new item should appear in your Horos main screen, in the "Sources" box, containing all the studies of the Osirix database. You can leave them in there, or copy them to your main database by dragging them to Documents DB.

Once you do this, you won't be able to access the studies from Osirix, unless you change the folder name again to "Osirix Data". But if you are planning to remove Osirix from your computer, that won't be much problem for you.

Hope it helps!
