Hoppy February

It is quite the mild winter and we are already thinking about the time when the picnic tables will be out front and the days are longer and warmer. This new year continues to bring the opening of new breweries. There are close to 200 in the state and closing in on 3000 nationwide. Most of the breweries are small and most of the beer in this state is brewed by a handful of familiar names like Georgetown, and Mack and Jacks, and Fremont. One of them is also Elysian. We all know now that Elysian is now part of the Aneheuser Busch family, we will have to wait to see how that will impact the flavor of the beer and the personality of the brewery. We have many friends at Elysian and if the Space Dust remains delicious we will probably continue to buy it. However our goal is to introduce you to some fantastic new breweries so you may see some names you don't quite recognize. But we will continue to search for the freshest and most flavorful beer we can find. Often the small breweries have the ability to make unusual small batches, and when they deliver the beer we know it will be fresh.

We have two excellent brewer events this month. Ballast Point is in the house on Thursday the 12th. They are one of the amazing San Diego breweries that has been creating some fantastic beer including very hop forward and flavor assertive beers. We will have several on tap. Our friends at Holy Mountain are in the house on the 26th. They are one of the new breweries that we have ben featuring. They are making sours and barrel aged beers already along with some wonderful ale styles.

We will be hosting a benefit for the Tilted Thunder Rail Birds on the 28th.  Come out to help the roller derby team and our own Nicole who plays on the skating squad.

As always thanks for stopping by the Hopvine. May you have a fantastic February.

Cheers.
