Good morning!

Hustle: Our home tournament is our pride and joy.  We get compliments every year about the quality of the tournament, but we literally cannot have a tournament without volunteers.  As we discovered last year, we also cannot have the tournament if the weather doesn't cooperate.  Since Hustle is also our primary club fundraiser, (which directly affects club dues, our scholarship budget, and supplements tournament costs and travel) the absence of the tournament last year really effected us.  We have to make 2015's Hustle even better than usual so we can make up for last year's cancellation.  Please volunteer so we can continue to host the best tournament in the state of MN.  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c4aa4aa29a64-hopkins

MNYU League: Youth ultimate is at an interesting part of it's development.  There are programs like ours that have consistent numbers, talent, access to fields, etc.  There are also programs across the twin cities who have none of those things and play in sneakers.  If you check out mnyu.org, you'll see that the mission of the league is give every youth ultimate player in MN a good experience.  That means, to the best of their ability, they are trying to prevent blow out games, prohibitive driving times, and uninsured fields.  It wouldn't be a good experience for a brand new team to play Hopkins Varsity the first week of league, and it wouldn't be helpful for an established A team to only play B or C teams just because they were nearby. Brand new teams join the league every year, and there is still a very high turn over rate in terms of talent.  A top contender in 2015 may graduate nearly their whole team and have to start from scratch in 2016 (because only a handful of programs even have B teams!).  So MNYU has an algorithm that builds the schedule, but in order to do right by all the teams in the league, they have to schedule 1-2 games at a time.  This allows them to make sure we're matching teams up with appropriate opponents, not sending them to get destroyed 8 weeks in a row.

Conferences are a little bit different.  Essentially, conference play is like bracket play on a tournament Sunday. The winners of each week's games will play each other in order to advance to the final. The games just happen to be spread out over several weeks.  The Open Lake Conference Final is a Wednesday this year: May 20th, 6pm.  The Girls West Conference Finals are on Friday May 22nd at 5:30pm.  They are at stadiums!

That's why we don't know our entire schedule starting on April 1st.  Someday, when all the teams in MN are established programs like ours, and every high school has a team, the schedule will be set 8 weeks out for sure.  Until then.

Camps & Clinics:
It's time to start thinking about summer camp.

There is also a middle school ultimate clinic/camp in Golden Valley (at Lions).  Ask Ruble about that one.

That's all for now!
