Riccardo Jefferson, former lay pastor of Mount Vernon UMC in Whiteford and president of the Baltimore Suburban District's United Methodist Men, died Nov. 26. A viewing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Ames UMC, 113 Baltimore Pike in Bel Air.
A wake and home-going service will be held Dec. 11, beginning at 10 a.m., at Bel Air UMC, 21 Linwood Ave. in Bel Air. Condolences can be sent to Denise Jefferson at 3014 Cascade Drive, Abingdon, MD 21009.
The BWC received news from our covenant partners in Zimbabwe of a recent tragedy. The
Rev. Duncan Charwadza and his wife, Mai, died in a car accident Dec. 4. Rev. Charwadza was the Zimbabwe East Annual Conference Deputy Administrative Assistant to the Bishop and Connectional Ministries Director.
Geraldine Thompson, the wife of the late
Rev. Vernon Thompson, died Nov. 11.
Pastor Rodney Hudson, of Ames UMC in Baltimore, is running for as a candidate for District 7 of the Baltimore City Council.

The first part of the study "
Who Are We: a Journey from Head to Heart,"
premiered to great reviews this fall. Part 2, on "Who Are We as United Methodists," is slated to begin in January. These six small group sessions will explore our Wesleyan heritage and the theology and passion of this movement of faith called Methodism

BWC Scholarship application process opens Jan. 3:
The BWC awards scholarships is for qualified students currently attending college, as well as high school seniors who plan to attend college in the fall of 2020. The application process opens Jan. 3 and closes March 5.
To be considered for a scholarship, students must complete the full online application which includes uploading their current transcripts. In addition, the student must provide contact information for their pastor and one additional church reference. The pastor and reference will be contacted and asked to submit information on the student's participation in the local church. The entire process will be completed online.

- The Annapolis District United Methodist Men will hold its annual gathering Saturday, Dec. 14, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Severna Park UMC, 731 Benfield Road in Severna Park. The Rev. - Save the Date: On Feb. 18, Bishop LaTrelle Easterling will host the clergy of the Baltimore-Washington Conference in a Lenten Day Apart. The speaker will be Dr. Teresa L. Fry Brown, the Bandy Professor of Preaching at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.
- Need a time of refreshment following the busy Advent/Christmas season? Why not take a retreat week and come to J-Term at Wesley Theological Seminary. Exciting courses will be taught over an intensive one- or two-week period in January 2020; take the course for credit or audit. (Attention, Wesley graduates: all alumni may audit one of these J-Term classes for free.) J-Term courses include: A Black Theological Critique of Spike Lee, with Dr. Asa Lee; Worship in Popular Culture, with Dr. Anna Petrin; Faith on Film. with Dr. Deryl Davis; and Bodies, Books and God, with Dr. Katherine Brown. Advocacy and Action
- Coat Drive: The Baltimore Metropolitan District, in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, invites you to donate new and gently used winter coasts, hats, gloves, and scarves, to a coat drive. Donations can be made at the BWC Mission Center, at 11711 E. Market Place in Fulton, or at Salem Baltimore Hispanic UMC, 3405 Gough St. in Baltimore. The Immigrant Relations Committee of Baltimore will distribute the coats to families arriving in the city during the winter months.
- Toy Drive: The United Methodist Men of Randall Memorial UMC are collecting toys for 300 needy families in Ward 7. They are seeking money, clothes, bikes, and toys for children of all ages. Items should be donated before Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. To learn more, call 202-396-0375.
Wellness and Missions
- The Susanna Wesley House , a UMW-sponsored home for women and children, has tickets for the Gospel Christmas Celebration featuring CeCe Winans, the Morgan State University Choir and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, on Friday, Dec. 20, at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St. in Baltimore. - Mission u, an event co-sponsored by United Methodist Women and the BWC's Wellness and Missions team, will be held July 24-26 at the Bethesda Marriott. The 2020 studies will be on Finding Peace in the Midst of Anxiety, and Mass Incarceration: School to Prison Pipeline. The Youth Study with be on Managing Anxiety. Bishop Mark Webb of the Upper New York Conference is inviting ERT teams and ERT-Led VIM teams to assist in recovery efforts in the Mohawk Valley Area of New York State from a flood this past Halloween. The request for support is to help in the clean-up of more than 180 homes impacted by the flood waters. If you have a VIM team that would be interested in assisting, the team must be led by ERT-credentialed volunteers. Housing and meals will be provided by the UNY Conference. Young People's Ministry
- The deadline to nominate a youth for the United to Love Moral Courage Award has been extended to Monday, Dec. 16. The Moral Courage Awards are given to one to three youth who put their faith into action, especially when doing so is uncomfortable or unpopular, for the sake of justice despite risk, comfort, and or societal silence. - High school students are invited to attend the BWC's Student Leader Cohort retreat
Jan. 10-12 at West River Camp near Annapolis. The Student Leader Cohort is a new approach to developing student leaders based upon interests and a format of events open to all youth and a small group time with a mentor. Registration closes Dec. 27. Learn more and save a spot.
- ROCK will be held Feb. 7-9 at the Convention Center in Ocean City. The weekend retreat and revival for youth will feature Aaron Shust (My Savior, My God and My Hope is in You) leading praise and worship, along with B Haley from Toby Mac as the main speaker, and the Morgan State University Praise Dance Team.

236th Session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference will be Wednesday through Friday, May 27 to 29, at the Waterfront Marriott Hotel in Baltimore. Resolutions to be considered by the session, must be submitted by Feb. 1.
