About a month ago I was diagnosed with perioral dermatitis on my chin and cheek. I used several essential oils and it subsided some, but then flared even worse on a stressful day. Now, I can't seem to get a handle on it. Any suggestions?

What oils did you use & at what concentration? My 8 year old has it too & it’s out of control.

  • Consider natural toothpaste without fluoride or sodium laureth (lauryl) sulfate - HEO’s Tooth Suds is a good choice.
  • Discontinue using sodium laureth (lauryl) sulfate in any product. Check your shampoo, lotions or soaps.
  • Consider using Dairy Meadow Soaps Honey Oatmeal soap
  • Consider Evening Primrose supplement (one lady likes Barlean’s Evening Primrose Oil).
Some report that applying apple cider vinegar to the rash helped (I’d guess diluted). Drinking it has an excellent health benefits. (We use raw, organic ACV.) This is how we drink it:
1 TB Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (Use the organic, raw, unfiltered)
1 TB Local Raw Honey (if local honey is not available, then at least use raw - unprocessed)
1 Cup pure (filtered) Water (we combine the vinegar and honey first and then add the water)

If it seems to be related to hormones, you may want to consider using Vitality or Master essential oils (not on the face but as suggested on their detail pages).

I will pray for you to find relief. Please let us know what you find that helps. ~ Linda

Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear about your son’s dermatitis. He is so young. Here is what I’ve been doing. I’ll warn you that it’s a little all-over-the-place. I was hoping to learn of a successful ritual that is simpler.

1.     I've been using a drop or two of Melrose EO (HEO's Cleansing) with V6 carrier oil (HEO users like Natural/Organic oil) several times a day. The Melrose comes out quickly so I normally end up with about two drops. I use about a dime’s worth of V6.

2.     Sometimes I use Jojoba or Grape seed Oil instead of the V6, or in addition to it. If my face is feeling tight or dry then I use more.

3.     I add in a drop of lavender and sometimes a drop or two of sandalwood to the Melrose (Cleansing).

4.     I use the Aura Cacia brand of sandalwood in jojoba oil because other sandalwood is so expensive).

5.     In the morning, I pat a clean cloth dipped in apple cider vinegar (ACV) on the dermatitis for a few seconds. I use a little pressure but I never rub it. Then I apply a heavy layer of Coconut Oil all over my face to soak in while I eat breakfast.

6.     When I'm home I do the ACV with coconut oil several times a day. I just leave a little ACV in a mug and the bottle of coconut oil right in the kitchen.

7.     Then I shower and start the Melrose (Cleansing) routine.

8.      I've attached two pictures. I warn you that the first is intense but it's a picture of my chin at its worse. The second picture is about four days later. (sorry, but the photos were not attached.)

I believe that the apple cider vinegar kills whatever and then the Melrose, Lavender, V6, and Grape Seed Oil help it heal. The carriers and coconut oil act as a moisturizer.

I tried Violet Extract which I read online works well, but it stung and I personally think it made my condition worse.

I do hope this helps.

I haven't other people's replies so I may be repeating. The first thing I'd do is clean up diet. Get all sugar, white flour products and especially GMO and processed foods out of your diet. See if that doesn't help. You need to find the root cause and not just a bandaid on the situation.

I'd also use manuka honey on the rash. Make sure to get the highest UMF that you can as it's supposed to be more healing. Might also try Mangosteen powder on the skin or mixed with coconut oil and applied.
