My son has a ruptured eardrum that has not yet healed, so we have to be careful of water in the ear. He got some water in his ear the other day from swimming, and it was very painful. We tried Helichrysum around the ear first, and then we used Lavender and massaged it around the ear and down the neck. I also put some diluted in Almond oil on his feet to help him sleep. He slept very well and even slept in. He said the pain was gone, but it still sounded blocked/muffled. We diluted Frankincense and massaged all around his ear, and later that day, he could hear fine! Right now, I'm mixing Helichrysum, Frankincense, and Lavender in almond oil and massaging around the ear before bed each night to heal the eardrum, we pray! We'll be seeing the ENT next week...

Rita wrote about avoiding SWIMMER's EAR: We have been applying Lavender after almost every swim. Massage on the exterior front and back of the ear. All three of mine children had swimmer's ear bad/frequently last year from swimming almost every day. This year they've been swimming about as much, but they've not had even a hint of swimmers ear. When I've used it for earaches, I can feel the pain/pressure dropping.

Vinegar and Water is a home remedy that works unless the child has tubes in the ears.
1/2 tsp water
1/2 tsp White Vinegar
Pour into each ear
This may help relived the pressure and clear the ear. Some use this as a preventative after swimming.

As a swimmer, I found alcohol and vinegar to work well for preventing swimmers ear by drying the water up, but I'm not sure about a cure. Before I found out about natural cures, I would squirt Neosporin in my ear at night. Now, I make a 50:50 mixture of colloidal silver and iodine and put three drops in and lay on my side for 15 minutes. This has even cured an inner ear infection.

My ENT said that the best treatment for swimmer's ear is to put a few drops of olive oil in the ear 2 nights in a row and then a few drops of peroxide in the ear the next 2 nights. I have used this method for years, and it has always worked for me.
