I am not sure where to start. Already this season, has some of us coughing, sore throats, sinus headaches and running noses.
Which EO would be the best to just get started?
I do not have a diffuser at this time (plan to purchase one in the near future). I thought if I could just put some drops of EO in a pot on the stove.
Thanks,
Toni

Hi Toni,

For the coughs, Lung Healing is tops in our home. We put a drop on the tongue like you would a mint. It can also be applied to the chest and back (diluted) if desired. It should help with sinus headaches as well.

For nose congestion, we swab Myrtle in the nostrils.

Lung Healing could be simmered on the stove in water (don't let this run dry - the oils should not be allowed to burn). Many like to diffuse Plague Defense (a cinnamon/clove aroma) to prevent illness. We put a drop of Plague Defense in a little water to gargle for a sore throat, then we swallow it.

I hope this helps :-) Linda

Thank you!
What would I use to dilute the Lung Healing? Is Lung Healing safe to use for young children?

You can use anything you'd cook with to dilute essential oils, but we typically use coconut oil or the Natural/Organic blend. For very young children, there are more suitable choices, but if I were faced with a very sick child and had Lung Healing, I'd use it with discretion. A small child may not understand the intensity of the Peppermint in the blend, and since they can't communicate well, it's best to dilute it a lot or use something more suitable. These pages may help:

Lung Healing is amazing for lung issues, including pneumonia, and this has been used as a suppository on a newborn (6 weeks of age). For more information about using a suppository:

Toni,

I use Plague Defense a lot and its shown itself to stop colds dead in their tracks. At the first sign of discomfort (sore throat, feeling run down or like a cold is coming on), I put four drops into the large section of an empty veggie capsule and add olive or coconut oil to fill, cap it off with the smaller section and swallow with water immediately. Sometimes, if I feel there is queasiness of the stomach or headache I will add in one drop of Peppermint oil and sometimes Lemon oil, but if you do not have these other ingredients, they are not vital.

I take these capsules three or four times a day, until all signs of illness are gone—usually three days.

If you have children and they can't swallow pills, I would dilute and rub on the bottoms of their feet, or belly.

Hi Toni,
Since Plague Defense is a *hot* blend, you will want to be sure it's well diluted. There are some guidelines on the HEO website.
Click on the green HEALTH ISSUES tab, then click on BABIES and CHILDREN.

A good starting point for a baby is 1% dilution, but as they mature, you can use more essential oil, and some would say 3-4 drops per ounce is fine for a baby. You want to use enough to address the need, but not more than necessary. A small child cannot adequately express if the oil feels too hot or uncomfortable, thus the need for much dilution.

If all one has is Plague Defense, even though not a first choice blend for a baby, it would be my choice over an antibiotic alternative. You'll see on the chart linked above that there are other oils that are considered preferable for a baby or child. Ravensara and Niaouli are good choices.

Peppermint rubbed on the chest & neck clears up my cough & congestion. I usually apply every few hours.
