Ashley asked: What kinds of oils are safe for a nursing mom?
Linda's answer: High quality essential oils used within reason are considered safe when nursing. There are some oils associated with increasing and decreasing milk supply. We have a list on the website.
At age 46 I found that using a LOT of Peppermint seemed to decrease my milk supply, but rather than stop using Peppermint, I chose to add a drop or two of Fennel to all the water I drank. I then have plenty of milk.
The following oils used individually may increase milk supply. These oils can be applied topically to breasts, but be sure to dilute with massage oil. Apply after nursing and avoid the nipple area, or add a drop or two to a glass of water several times a day as needed.
Clary Sage
Fennel
Geranium
Use the following oils sparingly as they may decrease milk supply.
Melissa
Oregano
Peppermint
Sage Dalmation (Officinalis)
Spearmint
Thyme
Yarrow
