Dear Paralympic history project contributors,
After promises and stops and starts this year, we have finally locked in date and times for the next Wikipedia workshop.
It will be in Sydney on the weekend of 27/28 October, to coincide with the final weekend of the Invictus Games. The idea is to capitalise on interest in the Games and hopefully attract new editors.
The APC has a small fund available to assist existing contributors to the project to attend from interstate. If you are interested in taking advantage of this, please contact me direct (tony...@gmail.com).
What: Wikipedia workshop for new and existing Wikipedia editors with a focus on creating and editing Wikipedia articles about the Invictus and Paralympic Games and the athletes who compete in those Games.
Organiser: The Australian Paralympic Committee, through the Australian Paralympic History Project
Location: Sydney Olympic Park
When: Saturday 27 October from 1-5PM and Sunday 28 October from 9AM-12 midday and 1-3PM. (This will allow participants to attend the Invictus Games Closing Ceremony after the Saturday session.)
Requirements: A laptop computer and an interest in telling the story of disability sport and its athletes, from the Paralympics to the Invictus Games.
Support: Experienced Wikipedia editors will be present to teach participants how Wikipedia ‘works’ and how to edit and create Wikipedia articles. Participants will be introduced to a supportive network of editors who have been responsible for creating almost 1,000 Wikipedia articles about Paralympic sport, Australia and Australians at the Paralympic and Invictus Games.
Theme: Help them to write history.
Regards,
TN
