Hi Phil,
I took a quick survey of snow *depths* around my development, in plots ranging from open lawn to in the woods, and I found depths ranging from 8 to 12 inches. The wide range is due to high winds causing a lot of drifting. I'm going to say the average is on the high side of 10+ inches of snow depth. I don't know what the exact amount of *snowfall* is. The closest NWS report to where I am was in downtown Beacon with 11 inches of snowfall reported at 7am.
The snow here is definitely moist and dense. Great for snowball fights. It's dense, heavy stuff. 8 to 10 inches of it on top of a slushy, compressed base.
To the west of where I am, near Patterson and Brewster, NY there are reports of 14+ inches of snowfall as of 10:30am this morning (at Poughquag and Hopewell Junction.
In Lower Westchester County and down into NYC, they're reporting 18 to 20 inches of snowfall.
The highest snowfall report so far in the Catskills was down by Platte Clove and Indian Head Mt at the eastern end of the Devil's Path, with 14.5 inches reported at 7am.
NY Mesonet doesn't show snowfall totals, but it does show liquid equivalent precipitation totals. It looks like the most water (of whatever kind) that's fallen in NY State is around NYC and Long Island, the eastern end of Putnam County (Brewster, NY), and the eastern Catskills.
