Sam and I went in to Tad River Glen yesterday, Saint Patricks Day. Luck must have been with us since we didn't disappear and become more victims of the Bennington Triangle. This mountain is actually a northern satellite knob of Glastenbury Mountain. I even wore red. Not good in the Bennington Triangle. Anyway, the good news is theres much more snow than anyone would think considering recent weather. Barely any rain as predicted. Slight drizzle at times and even some spitting snow. There is also still lots of skiable lines on the north and northeast aspect. Some debris and dirty snow. The base was fairly solid and held up in most places, but there was some sinking in unpredictable places.  Tree wells were between 1 and 3 feet deep depending on exposure. I sunk my pole in all the way at one point. I was hoping it would warm up enough for soft turns, but it remained crusty. High of about 38. Not as high as predicted for that elevation. We found a widespread area of open trees for the descent. I kept my skins on. Sam was brave and went for full on survival turns without skins. We both crashed and burned a couple times. But I had fun in learning that not everywhere in the hoosacs has totally grown in and the season may not necessarily be over. I would say 6 to 8 inches of new snow would transform this place into skiers Disneyland. Maybe this Friday? I swear mountain forecast messes with me. Last night they said 16 inches at this elevation. Now its 2. They'll probably flip flop a couple times before Friday. A day well spent just exploring this unique area. About six hours altogether from Kelley Stand parking. Two and a half hours getting in. Some tricky water holes on the secondary snowmobile trail. Still some open woods on the way in with short descent potential as well. The unpaved section of Kelley Stand road was not as muddy as expected.

I put a picture from my phone in the replies here. Couldn't get it directly on to my original post.

Thanks Tad, for saving me the report writing, and for
dragging me out on a dreary day.
