Dear all,
Firstly, THANK YOU. We have well over 100 student groups represented on this list so far, and we want MANY more. Let's get this campaign into full swing...
This initial email has two parts. The first is some press information about the campaign itself, just so we are all on the same page about what our goals are as a coalition of individuals and groups at the University. The second part has details on the fundraising campaign, instructions on how to donate, and resources for groups hoping to raise money and collaborate with others. We hope you will take the time to read all of the information and let us know if you have questions.

Hoos for Haiti: Student-initiated campaign aims to reach $100,000 for Haiti relief by Feb. 14
(Charlottesville, VA, USA) – University of Virginia students are coming together to raise $100,000 by Feb. 14 for victims of the recent earthquakes in Haiti. Hoos for Haiti, a collaborative group of student organizations and individuals, will coordinate the collection and distribution of funds to Partners in Health, the American Red Cross, UNICEF, and GHESKIO.
Partners in Health, the American Red Cross, UNICEF, and GHESKIO were chosen because they are uniquely positioned to respond to the immediate needs of the survivors of last week’s major earthquakes. Donations can be made at http://hoosonline.virginia.edu/supporthoos4haiti and can be designated to a specific organization. Donations not designated to a specific organization will be divided evenly among the four organizations. Hoos for Haiti will sustain the financial support from the University community beyond February 14 and ensure that future waves of aid continue to meet the expressed needs of Haitians.
Students and faculty have planned events ranging from benefit concerts and silent auctions to t-shirt and armband sales. Information about events and fundraising activities organized by members of the U.Va. community in support of relief efforts in Haiti can be found at www.uvahaiti.wordpress.com/2010, which includes a calendar to facilitate collaboration. Students and community members interested in publicizing an event, finding partner organizations or volunteering can email hoos4...@gmail.com.
The organization also aims to facilitate education and discussion about the social, political, and economic situation in pre- and post-earthquake Haiti.
