Andy Lowden, who some of you may know as that knee-brace guy on the
Piranhas who blasted an upper-V shot last Tuesday against the Shamrock
Rovers, is organizing a collection of soccer gear for his friend in
South Africa (see emails pasted below).
If you have any soccer equipment with which you are willing to part,
this is a great opportunity to "pay it forward" and discover what kind
of karma might await you. I will be collecting gear at our next game,
which is not until Sunday, May 20th @ St. John's HS (6 p.m.). In the
meantime, feel free to contact Andy (andrew....@verizon.com) if
you want to arrange a direct drop-off with him. I can also take
donations at my house in Mt. Pleasant (1856 Ingleside Terrace NW,
D.C.), so feel free to leave stuff on the porch or call me to say you
are coming by.
This is an easy way to do some good while cleaning up your home, so
please give what you can!
Best,
Dan

Dear soccer lovers,
This is a great opportunity(see below) to make a big difference for
some people who are less fortunate.
For those of you who don't know, Kristen is our good friend and former
roommate who is in the Peace Corps in South Africa.
Melissa and I would be happy to collect anything you would like to
donate. We'll consolidate and ship it.
Thanks,
Andy

Hi friends and family,
Hope this email finds you well. I'm sending another request for soccer
gea r. Some of you expressed interest in sending stuff out here last
time I asked, but the holidays came about and life in general and
well, I'm asking again. Anything you might be willing to part with ~
old cleats, shorts, shin guards, balls, uniform shirts, pennies, etc.
~ there are so many people here of all ages that I know would love and
appreciate it. Those of you on teams (Iron City, Thunder, World Peas,
Piranhas, etc) - if you could ask your teammates as well...
Also, I have befriended a sweet family up the road, whom I've come to
sort of know (language barrier prevents actual conversations, other
than 'how are you', 'it's cold' and 'do you like cows?' - mostly just
a lot of laughter) through my occasional runs; 12 children live there,
I'm guessing ages 1-17, and usually at least half of them run with me
for a bit when I slowly jog by...their clothes are pretty torn and
tattered so I was wondering if anyone has any old clothes they could
donate to this family, especially as the very cold winter months are
approaching, I'm sure they could use it.
I've attached a picture of the kids from one of the days I brought my
soccer ball there (minus Sihle and Derek - 8-9 yr old boys who really
like to run and race and beat me, barefoot and all).
Thanks everyone, love and miss you all, and please feel free to send
me reports on how you're doing!
Hugs and kisses,
K
