to Hoofer Sailing Club Sailors
Hi All:

I do wish this sort of information (see below) would come from the
Club Leadership, but be that as it may, I thought to share it directly
so YOU have a chance to participate in these decisions on short
notice. All of this will directly impact keelboat operations for
years to come, assuming Keelboats don't become a separate Hoofer Club
during that time.

A couple thoughts; 1) A "nominating committee" cannot ethically
consist of employees, but rather should consist of club members
without financial interests in the decisions made and 2) the option to
discontinue the Hoofer Head of Instruction-Sailing position should be
debated to save money and improve performance. I don't think any of
the other Hoofer Clubs have bureaucratized education as much as
sailing, and it now costs about 50% or more of the Club budget to
support a small group of "core" employees. The Head of Instruction
position costs I understand about $40,000 annually with little return
on investment. Maybe a volunteer system would save money to put
toward equipment repair and replacement to improve safety overall once
more.

<From Borko's Notes – July 21, 2009>

....Borko is Moving On – As was announced at last week's instructor
meeting, I will be resigning from the Head of Instruction position at
the end of the summer. I will be enrolled as a full-time MBA student
at UW-Madison this fall semester and feel it is in my best interest,
as well as that of the club, to step down before the end of the
sailing season. I won't be disappearing completely as my program is
only 2-blocks away, and plan to remain on in an advisory role
throughout the academic year.

Education Committee Meeting ... Related to the previous note, The
Board of Captains has started the process of searching for the next
Head of Instruction. Part of this process includes appointing a
nominating committee that will interview and screen applicants for the
position and make a recommendation to the BOC. There will be an
Education Committee, led by Adam Hughes, to discuss the nominating
committee held on Monday, July 27 at 8:30 p.m.......
