Pronunciation of "Rashemi"

Hi, Yakkers,

I have been struggling for a while to find the pronunciation of "Rashemi", which is a girl's name in India or Pakistan.

Is it read "ラシェミ" or am I wrong?

The name Rashemi is pronounced exactly as you wrote it in katakana. In Sanskrit (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B5%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AA%E3%83%83%E3%83%88), the name means "Sunshine".

I think "Rashemi" is how Japanese would pronounce it .

This Indian would pronounce it "Rashmi" (sounds like Rush-me).

｢ラッシュミ｣.might be closer to the actual pronunciation; I have also heard this name pronounced as 「ラシュミ」.

Incidentally, my name "Gururaj" is closer to "グルラジュ”　but the government authorities in Japan have settled on "グルラジ" (Gururaji)

and so it shows on all my official documentation. I guess most people here find it easy to pronounce it with a ジ　rather than a ジュ.

So take your pick; I personally would prefer 「ラシュミ」 which is softer to pronounce and easier to write. If you do know the person, you can confirm it from her.
