Unwisely plunging into a plant genetic engineering text, I have been unable to identify 紋桔病.

Can someone please enlighten me?

Hello Tim,

Glad to see you are still with us on Honyaku.

A Taiwanese research article in Chinese with an English abstract calls it "rice sheath blight." Here is the link:

I found this by googling 紋桔病 in quotation marks. That often works for me in hunting down plant disease names in Japanese as well.

You folks who work in biology/biotech amaze me. You function in a totally different world from mine.

 

What also amazes me is that people who really should know better (such as multinational LSP's) think that translators are interchangeable, that as long as you know Japanese and English you should be able to translate in fields ranging from Buddhist philosophy, to agricultural diseases, to cryptology, to quantum theory as it applies to semiconductor devices, to textile manufacturing, to the history of opera, to animal husbandry, to genetic engineering…

 

I consider myself skilled in one of the fields listed above, but clueless at the rest, so I am glad that the rest of you on this line are able to cover those fields so I don't have to...

When questions like this come up, it makes me pine for the multilingual Bayer glossaries of names for weeds (and crops), harmful insects, and plant diseases, to which I had access at DuPont Ag!!

I still occasionally search online for used copies that for some reason come up for sale.
