French accents on a Japanese keyboard (Win)

A friend of mine asks how to type French accents and other special
characters from a Japanese keyboard, on Windows.

Is there a "deadkey"-like way of doing that ? Or is it necessary to
fiddle with a "special character table" to insert the little things
one by one ?

English, I hit a few keys by mistake and everything I typed, to my pleasant
surprise, came out in Greek.
I could actually use this sometimes with documents that have a lot of
thetas, deltas, and myus in them but I can't figure out what I hit. I
switched through some windows to "shake it off" and now I can't get it to
come back.
