I seem to recall that many Japanese novels and
the like used to display a legal disclaimer, "This is
fiction... no relationship to real people and places"
but I haven't noticed it recently. Does anybody
have the text of such a disclaimer, or is it now
considered ineffective or meaningless to have
this (as people can still claim that the book is
about them or about a real place etc..)
(talking about a Japanese-language disclaimer)

A typical version is: この物語はフィクションであり、実際の人物・団体とは
一切関係しません。

Hello Mr. Wilkinson,

I found the following sentence on the NHK Staff blog in the following URL.

NHK thinks all the doramas are basically fiction, so we do not show a disclamer "This drama is fiction."

I could find 3 different examples:

この作品はフィクションです。実在の人物、団体、事件などにはいっさい関係ありません。

この物語はフィクションであり、実在の人物・団体とは一切関係ありません。

この物語はフィクションであり、登場する団体・人物などの名称はすべて架空のものです。

My favorite notice of this kind was by the author of a British detective story (gist only, from memory): All the characters in this book are based on real people,  all of whom have been consulted and have expressed themselves as being delighted with the representation.
