Could it be the "giant slalom"? This race seems to be similar to the slalom but with poles spread farther apart, apparently so that better skiers can go faster between them.

Looking around, I am pretty sure that ポールバーン refers to the slalom course where they hold both slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS) races.
