I've run across the word アッテネート in a translation about a cd type
player and after googling it I think it is "attenuate." Can someone
confirm my suspicions?

FWIW, *attenuator* is often written as アテネータ in Japanese.

FWIW, *attenuator* is often written as アテネータ,
アテネーター and アッテネーター in Japanese according
to some of my dictionaries.
