Now I'm in around the middle of the proofreading. Thanks for inputs for
preceding questions.

The title " jump through the hurdle" is used in M&A context.

our (Country name) management team, and ultimately persuade our CEO and
Board.

Hi Hiroko,

I think the translator did his/her best with an illogical English expression.

There is a English idiom "jump through hoops" that the Free Dictionary
(online) defines as: "to do a lot of extra things so you can
have...something you want." On the other hand, if you have ever
watched track and field events, you know that runners "jump over
hurdles" and would be disqualified by jumping through the center space
of the rectangular hurdles.Therefore, the error is in the original
English. It appears that the writer was somehow distracted when
writing your document.

Consequently, the translator was faced with the alternatives
jump+through+hoops or jump+over+hurdles, and chose the former as
suiting the writer's intended meaning.

This explanation may not solve your immediate problem, but it should
explain why the translator chose 輪くぐり.

Just as an afterthought, it occurred to me that perhaps the writer was
intentionally mixing the two metaphors to come up with a clever turn
of phrase.

"Jump through hurdles" is obviously incongruous, so the reader might
find it funny.

Hello John,

One Japanese translator thought the same as you in terms of mixing up
two of them on purpose, and it's maybe
「つまり jump overという『乗り越える』動作だけじゃなく、『いくつもの難関
を最後まで』という語感でthroughなんじゃないかな。」

As it was a tough acquisition, maybe so. I'll write a note about it, and
will translate accordingly (but difficult...) .

そうですね。博子さん、「ハードルくぐり」テストでどうですか？
「そんなのむりじゃん」感が伝われば翻訳成功ってことで。

ちなみに輪くぐりはよくない直訳もどきです。
なぜなら"Jump through hoops"は慣用句であり、意図する意味が英語読者にはすぐに伝わりますが、
日本語の「輪くぐり」は同じ意味合い（難題を次々とふっかけてやらせる）の慣用句として定着していないからです。あえてこじつけるなら、サーカスの輪くぐりを見て「わー、すごーい」とパチパチ拍手することかしらん、ぐらいの連想しか浮かびませんよね。地方によっては「儀式ですか？」みたいに話がそれたりして。
