Dear Honyakkers,

I want to investigate using Wordfast, and to do so I need to install it on the MS 365 subscription of Word for Mac. I don't see any instructions for installing it on this version on the Wordfast site.

TIA,

Jon Johanning

Jon,

From the Wordfast website (under platforms supported).

*Microsoft Office/Mac may need tuning to optimize performance with Wordfast. Thoroughly try Wordfast on your Mac before purchasing - the large demo mode allows all features to be tested.
See the manual's troubleshooting section.

I guess you try the demo version and find out. FWIW, I've used both and I think Felix is a much better fit for Japanese because Wordfast is tuned to European languages and has a lot of bells and whistles that are useless for J>E translation, but have to be set anyway. Felix is also free and works right inside Word and other Office applications just like Wordfast. http://felix-cat.com/

Hi John,

It looks like I won’t be able to install Wordfast on the subscription version of Word anyway, so I’ll take up your suggestion to try Felix. Apparently, MS blocked a lot of third-party tools built on Word when they moved to the subscription form.

However, I’m not super excited about CAT tools in general; my experience with the ones I've tried is that they don’t really help very much with my kind of work, compared with just using a good old word processor.
